Surface functionalization of chitosan as a coating material for orthopaedic applications: A comprehensive review
نویسندگان
چکیده
• Recent progress related to the surface modification of biomedical implant material, i.e. CS-based coatings is reviewed. CS- based result in better cell adhesion, spreading, proliferation and bioactivity etc. Improved mineralisation was achieved by incorporating inorganic particles (eg. CaP, HaP, BG) into CS coatings. Metallic implants have dominated industries for past century load-bearing applications, while polymeric shown great promise tissue engineering applications. The properties such are critical as interaction surfaces, body tissues may lead unfavourable reactions. Desired biocompatibility, corrosion resistance, antibacterial activity. A polymer coating an efficient economical way produce surfaces. lot research has been carried out on chitosan (CS)-modified metallic scaffolds last decade. Different methods electrophoretic deposition, sol-gel methods, dip spin coating, electrospinning, etc . utilized However, a systematic review focussing widely employed techniques lacking. This surveys literature concerning current status orthopaedic applications purpose In this review, various preparation role functionalities determining efficiency discussed. Effect nanoparticle additions interfaces regulating also investigated detail.

Chitosan coating as an antibacterial surface for biomedical applications
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES A current public health issue is preventing post-surgical complications by designing antibacterial implants. To achieve this goal, in this study we evaluated the antibacterial activity of an animal-free chitosan grafted onto a titanium alloy. METHODS Animal-free chitosan binding on the substrate was performed by covalent link via a two-step process using TriEthoxySil...
متن کاملChitosan as a starting material for wound healing applications.
Chitosan and its derivatives have attracted great attention due to their properties beneficial for application to wound healing. The main focus of the present review is to summarize studies involving chitosan and its derivatives, especially N,N,N-trimethyl-chitosan (TMC), N,O-carboxymethyl-chitosan (CMC) and O-carboxymethyl-N,N,N-trimethyl-chitosan (CMTMC), used to accelerate wound healing. Mor...
متن کاملCinnamon Oil and Chitosan Coating on Orthopaedic Implant Surface for Prevention of Staphylococcus Epidermidis Biofilm Formation.
S. Epidermidis is among the most frequently isolated microorganisms found in -infection related to implanted devices and the formation of biofilm will be more resistant compared to the planktonic form. This study was carried out to determine the effect of coating on stainless steel orthopaedic implants surfaces with cinnamon oil and chitosan as bioadhesive to prevent biofilms formation of S. Ep...
متن کاملA Comparison between β-Cyclodextrin and Chitosan as Soft Organic Materials for Surface Modification of MWCNTs
In this paper, synthesized (raw) multi-walled carbon nanotube (rMWCNTs) surfaces were modified with chitosan and β-cyclodextrin using Chen’s soft cutting technique. Raw and surface modified multi-walled carbon nanotubes were observed by transmission electron microscope (TEM). The results showed that chitosan and β-cyclodextrin could attach to the outer surface of nanotubes, wrapping the nanotub...
